Hammurabi's laws 1/28/14

Today we talked about Hammurabi's code "his list of laws" he created.  It was important because they were technically the first laws made for a "town/village".  These are 3 of his laws...

1. If a man has accused another of laying a nertu [death spell?] upon him, but has not proved it, he shall be put to death.

2. If he has borne false witness in a civil law case, he shall pay the damages in that suit.

3. If a man has stolen goods from a temple, or house, he shall be put to death; and he that has received the stolen property from him shall be put to death.

Today we took more notes on Mesopotamia and Sumer.  I learned that the sumerians came up with hours, seconds, and months etc.  They figured this out by the "movement" of the moon and where the sun rose and set.
